The Morale, Well-being and Recreation program at Sector San Juan exists for one reason: to uplift the spirits of the Coast Guard family. Whether you are on active duty, a reservist, a civilian employee, or a family member, MWR is here to support the life side of the work-life balance. Our mission is simple but vital — to strengthen the community through services, facilities, and programs that bring people together across the island.

Puerto Rico offers a unique backdrop for Coast Guard life, and MWR helps families make the most of it. From recreational equipment rental to community events, the program connects service members with the resources they need to enjoy their time on the island. The goal is to foster a sense of belonging and well-being that extends well beyond the workday.

The Child Development Center stands as one of the cornerstones of family support at Base San Juan. Providing quality care in a safe and nurturing environment, the CDC allows parents to focus on their duties knowing their children are in capable hands. It is a vital resource that helps Coast Guard families maintain stability and peace of mind throughout their tour.

Fitness and wellness are central to the MWR experience. The fitness facilities available to the community offer a place to train, recharge, and stay mission-ready. Whether you prefer weight training, cardio, or simply a quiet space to decompress, the resources are there to support your physical and mental resilience.

Recreation on the island takes many forms, and the MWR pool is a favorite gathering spot for families throughout the year. It provides a place to cool off, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the Caribbean climate. Combined with equipment rental and outdoor programs, these amenities help turn Base San Juan into a true home away from home.

The library offers more than just books — it is a quiet retreat for study, reflection, and personal growth. Service members and families can access a variety of materials and resources that support education, career development, and leisure reading. In a fast-paced operational environment, having a calm space to pause makes a meaningful difference.

Community events are the heartbeat of MWR programming. From holiday celebrations to casual gatherings, these moments bring the Coast Guard family together in ways that strengthen bonds and create lasting memories. Living on an island, the sense of connection becomes even more important — and MWR is proud to be the thread that ties it all together.

Life at Sector San Juan comes with its own set of challenges, including hurricane season and the demands of operational tempo. MWR is committed to helping families prepare, stay informed, and remain resilient through every season. From emergency resources to everyday support services, the program stands ready to serve those who serve.
